Day 13: Soft Whites

Day 13: Soft Whites

So I took the white challenge yet again today. I was so tempted, I really did not want to resist.

This time I chose a white egg placed in a white cup on a white cloth.

This was difficult, as I imagined it would be, but this time for other reasons. It was tricky for me to manage all the variations in the shadows and their soft versus hard transitions and edges.

I just want to say this: in watercolor paper is everything!
And learning how to manage the watercolor (i.e. paint with watercolor).

This was so pretty, so delicate and soft and I want to keep using this cloth with the light blue stripes, I think for the element of perspective that it adds, plus some texture to an otherwise big shape that would be all the same.

I did not use black again this time, but just primary colors. I think that I will try this a few more times throughout the month, it is proving to be the most useful learning and the most challenging as well.

I will be offline for the next 2 days because I am travelling back to Rome. It looks extremely cold there, but hopefully there will be sun and I can get out and paint some Romescapes next week.

Have a great weekend and I will be back on Monday.

These whites ( and series of near whites and grays) are so so so so good! Teach me teach me. A simple still life rendered intriguing- five stars!

Thank you Cindy. The real teacher is just in the doing, you know more than I do as the energizer bunny of creation that you are. Try using 1 color or mixture for a painting and just focus on values- I would love to see what you come up with.
