This Tuscany based workshop will be in a relaxed and informal environment and is open to artists and non alike.

Artists will paint or draw with, and learn from Kelly Medford, an American plein air painter living in Italy for over 15 years.

Her work includes landscapes, cityscapes, interiors, and occasionally still life work, but specializes primarily in plein air painting and sketching.

Kelly is equipped to customize classes and discussions to accommodate each artist’s interest and skill level. Kelly works primarily in oils, watercolor, gouache, ink, and other various drawing media. Artists are free to work in the medium of their choice during the workshop. There will be informal group discussions, demonstrations and critiques by request, and free time to work on your own, just relax or explore Barga or nearby towns (on your own).

Location:

We will be staying in a small private villa which has been renovated into a family run hotel. There villa has a number of terraces to be enjoyed along with a pool on the property.

The medieval walled hill town of Barga in northwest Tuscany offers beautiful gardens, winding small streets to explore, historic architecture, cafes, and an active arts community. You can visit the 9th-century Romanesque Duomo, smaller churches, galleries, shops, and many overlooks to admire views. You can enjoy a glass of wine, a coffee, and pastry or gelato at one of the welcoming bar cafes. Those wishing to visit Lucca or nearby villages on their own can travel by train, bus, or rental car.

Friends not wanting to paint are welcome to join the group and can enjoy the friendly village, its breathtaking location, the arts community, cafes, art museum, along with frequent music on the street this time of year.

Price:

The fee for this 10-day workshop is $2,995 and includes shared accommodation for 9 nights, ground transport from the Pisa airport, daily continental breakfast, and 6 dinners.

For non-artist guests, the fee is reduced by $200. Individual rooms are available for a fee upon request.
