Spring is the perfect time of year to get out and get inspired by drawing the landscape!
This is a subject dear to me and landscapes are a deep source of inspiration where the principles of light learned in observing nature can be taken into many other subjects in our painting and drawing.

What is this course?
In this class, we will spend 4 weeks building on our knowledge of varied ways of approaching and drawing landscapes. We will work in pencil and charcoal (or ink and wash for the adventuresome) to capture the natural world around us.
This class is for ALL skill levels and experience in drawing. Having a love of the landscape, curiosity, and willingness to learn more is all that is required.

What will we cover?
In our first class, we will talk about the foundational aspects of the landscape including light, how it hits different elements and planes in the landscape differently and how to approach that in your drawing. We will also talk about your materials (soft pencils for the first 2 weeks) and how different marks can convey light, movement, and planes.

In our second class, we will cover mark-making more in-depth along with individual elements such as clouds, hills, trees, paths, architectural elements, and how they work together.

Week 3 will be entirely dedicated to trees. Trees are such an essential element to the landscape and can be quite a challenge. We will talk about how to draw trees, the light and perspective of trees, and how each has its own personality. We will also start working with charcoal and tones.

Week 4 is putting it all together, or composition. We will look at what makes an interesting and dynamic composition in the landscape that draws the viewer in and where to put in detail and where to leave it out.

Dates and Times:
We will meet on 4 consecutive Saturdays via Zoom in May- May 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th from 5-7 pm Rome time.
Each class will be recorded live and made available to the class participants to watch and rewatch forever.

We also have a private Facebook group that you have the option to join to share your work, get feedback and ask questions.

Cost:
