Crumbling Treasures

Crumbling Treasures

While my small painting project is winding down, I’m gearing up for something bigger.I won’t stop painting these small and quicker paintings, they are almost an extension of me by now, but I am going to be starting some larger and more complex landscapes of Rome as a documentation of changing and crumbling parts of the city. This is really my passion and what I love about living in Rome: documenting and capturing its life and ever changing landscape.Via Labicano 137, Centocelle8×6″Oil on Linen Panel©Kelly MedfordWhy I mention this is that today’s painting is moving in that direction. This is part of a huge vaulted farm type warehouse building that was once in the countryside and is now in a sort of no man’s land grid locked between a few tracts of open fields and surrounded by high rise apartment buildings.I loved trying to look deep into the shadows with the white crumbling arches to set off and contrast this. While I was out on the road painting this a few older people walked by with their shopping bags bursting with wild greens. This is something I see often while painting out here. I’m not sure exactly which greens they are collecting, but they sure seem to be abundant. You can see or buy today’s painting hereSee other paintings from the 120 Day Project hereTake a plein air workshop in ItalyRome, Venice and Umbria all scheduled for 2013https://kellymedford.com/workshops
