A Feminine Touch

A Feminine Touch

Do you associate paintings as masculine or feminine? Normally I don’t, but this painting was more delicate not only because of the pastel colors, but the color palette had me go lighter on the brushwork and choosing my strokes carefully.Double Espresso8×6″Oil on Linen mounted on Wood©Kelly MedfordThe color scheme in a painting is so important to me- do the colors harmonize with each other? Is there a lot of contrast or only a little? Is it warm? Cool? Gray or full of bright light and deep shadows? All of these things will effect the way in which the paint is applied, almost instinctively.Of course if you do have a double espresso in the morning, I don’t recommend painting something delicate, as your hand may begin to shake!Really though, these beautiful coffee cups, that are so small that you have to pinch them between your thumb and forefinger in order to drink your coffee, come in every color combination imaginable. Which makes them perfect for painting. You can see or purchase today’s painting here on the websiteSee all other paintings from the 120 Day Project hereUpcoming Workshops:Art of the Painted Sketch August 21-28 in UmbriaDelight in the luxury of a 15th century restored villa tucked away in the rolling hills of Umbria. We will eat, swim, soak up the sun and even paint!Spots are limited, click here for detailsThe Light and Life of Venice: October 12-20 in the heart of VeniceCome along to explore the light of Italy’s most mysterious floating city. I’m sure the coffee tastes even better drunk out of these gorgeous little cups. Lovely painting.

Some Italians would say so- or even more that coffee tastes better in glass cups instead of ceramic!
I’m not that extreme about my coffee yet, but I think I am happily addicted.

Thanks for your comments Vandy and for following.
