Memories in Red
It is officially time to celebrate the first day of spring! I’ve been waiting for this day and it couldn’t have presented itself in a better way. Today was an absolutely gorgeous day in Rome, so I set out to explore a new place with my bike and easel: Campo Verano

This is a majestic place, I cannot even begin to explain how gorgeous this cemetery is. Italians really go all out.That might sound odd, but this cemetery, covering hundreds of acres, is packed with monuments, cypress trees and sculptures. It is a painters haven.Since I was overwhelmed with what to paint, I stopped at the first tomb that caught my eye, red! This beautiful rotunda is one of the early tombs dating from the early 19th century.There is a much longer history to this place, the 19th century is modern in Italian terms. This was originally ancient Christian catacombs, which the modern day cemetery is built on top of.You can believe that I will be painting here again, I can’t wait.
