Day 6: Evening on Lake Dora
Wow, I have a lot to share today, but I’ll keep it to the point. The first great news is that someone bought the first painting from the project: my lovely boss bought the painting of the greenhouse, how exciting! I’m incredibly honored and excited, thank you Rachel.I have a confession to make: today I almost sold you and myself out. Yesterday I said that I was upping the ante by taking these paintings to the next level by making them more finished paintings instead of sketches. When I got to the lake today I had a little over an hour before sunset and I only got a sketch out. When I got home, all I wanted to do was hang out, like veg out and watch tv or something, so naturally I had a dilemma. I didn’t know how to finish the painting to the level which I said I would yesterday, so I figured I would just have to tell you all that I failed and would try harder tomorrow (and then go indulgently veg!). But when I went to take the pictures of the painting in order to post it here, they just kept not coming out, and I saw that what there was to do was finish the painting! So I did. I took the time and worked out the painting, finishing it. This is a great semi-secluded spot on Lake Dora. I’m not sure what this falling down structure is, but I like to think of it as a Floridian temple. For some reason it had that feel about it to me, like the Greek ruins, but instead these are Floridian ruins. There were these 2 guys sitting in there fishing and they were talking so loud and laughing hysterically. They didn’t know it, but they really kept me company. I also had several tourist visitors who had come to watch the sunset chat with me.Today I did what I’m not used to doing, that is doing something even if I don’t feel like it just because I said I would. I know it seems silly and really too simple to say (and maybe a little childish..), but to follow through and work on the painting without the light, without the scene anymore and to finish it anyway.. Well, even though the circumstances weren’t in my favor I made it work and now I feel good about sharing today’s painting with you. This lake is really lovely and I think I will frequent it a few more times. It is one of the few places that I have found here in central Florida where you can watch the sunset over the water. Well, I think I’m going to skip vegging altogether and just head for bed.
