Day 21: Late Afternoon, Tomoka

Day 21: Late Afternoon, Tomoka

What a fun day, I got to meet a new friend and explore Tomoka State Park today. While there wasn’t a lot of time for painting, the place as a whole is beautiful with open marshes and then sections of forest (I guess in Florida it’s a hammock not a forest) with the oaks and their spanish moss encircling us as we whizzed by.We picked this spot because there was some shade to keep the sun off of our canvas and because there were two people sitting under an umbrlla fishing. Where are they? They packed up and headed out just as we started.. So no cool fisherman, just the quiet of the landscape. It was so cold I rushed to get everything down as my little fingers slowly turned to icicles. Still no snow here in central Florida, just the wetland. We drove around and around looking for a place to paint and the afternoon was getting on. I was doing that thing that I do sometimes, looking for something just to strike me enough to make me stop the car. Sometimes, most times, this works and something does strike. Today it wasn’t the case. My friend Konrad finally picked this spot, and I’m glad he did, otherwise it may have been another still life for me this evening. There was a good painting here, I just didn’t see it, but he did. It’s nice to have that other set of eyes and the voice of reason so that we could actually get down to painting. Tomorrow I think I’ll get an earlier start and listen to the voice of reason when looking for my spot. Or maybe I’ll find the perfect painting just waiting to be painted. To buy this or any other painting from the 100 day project follow this link: www.kellymedford.com/worksAll paintings are 6×8″ and cost $100 (+ $15 shipping). You can share this project with a friend by having them subscribe to the daily email at the following link: https://kellymedford.com/email-newsletter or they can follow along and comment on the blog www.kellymedford.blogspot.com
