Day 30: La Moka

Day 30: La Moka

This is the moka, or the Italian coffee pot, and a brillant invention! I got so involved in unpacking, doing laundry and enjoying being in my new place today that I decided to stay in and paint. While I was making coffee it dawned on me to paint the moka. It’s a lovely little contraption and makes the most potent and creamy warm coffee.Italians take coffee to another level. If you’ve never had coffee in Italy, well, I reccommend that you do as soon as possible. As my friend said the other day she thought that she just never liked coffee, but when she moved to Italy she realized that she had just never had any good coffee. How many ways are there to have a coffee in Italy? And let me be clear: a coffee in Italy is just a little tiny espresso shot, not a 16-ounce cup that you carry off with you. It’s meant to be drunk, or rather slammed down as if it were a shot of alcohol in the coffee bar. It can be short or tall, in a porcelin cup or a glass, with a “stain” of milk or big and frothy, and on and on. You would think that Italians invented coffee, they have a whole culture around coffee, but even better then inventing it they turned it into an art form. This little pot is tricky to paint and the light and reflections on it are constantly changing. Still, I wanted to capture it in all of it’s glory, so I will indeed be paitning it again. Maybe within a setting with its little cups and spoons, sugars and the like. This Italian coffee has really grown on me, and there have even been times when I’ve brought this pot with me in my travels so as to avoid bad coffee.I’ve relaxed since then and will even drink bad coffee. But let me make myself understood: not all coffee is created equal! To buy this painting for $100 click here https://kellymedford.com/works/409508To view or buy other paitings from the 100 day project follow this link https://kellymedford.com/worksAll paintings are 6×8″, painted on birch, unframed and cost $100 (+ shipipng). You can share this project with a friend by having them subscribe to receive the daily enewsletter here https://kellymedford.com/email-newsletter or follow along on the blog site at www.kellymedford.blogspot.comThanks for your interest in the project and I look forward to hearing from you soon!
