Day 31: Along the Arno, Fucecchio
I was sure it would be raining all day, but instead there were the most gorgeous enormous clouds plodding along and there was a break in the rain. I was out of Florence but found myself alongside the Arno (the river that runs east to west through Florence and Pisa). Today was a glorious day to be outside, and I’m glad for it. Painting outside just rejuvinates and revitalizes me, I get a little stagnant after too much time spent indoors. I don’t think I could be a full-time studio painter. This place is so cool, I’m actually standing up on this narrow hill where there is the beginning of a bridge but it just stops in mid-air and doesn’t cross the river. Below is farmland with locals who have small gardens, chickens and vineyards. On the other side of this little hill that I was standing on is just a road leading to the highway. I’ve passed by here several times and even stopped once to paint but didn’t because I couldn’t decide on a composition. Today it was all about the sky and the ground was mostly in shadow, leaving it to be all close in tone.I love days like this and am looking forward to many more. It’s nice to be out in the countryside painting in February in Italy! To buy this painting for $100 (+ shipping) click here https://kellymedford.com/works/409941.
