Day 63: Looking Towards Sachall

Day 63: Looking Towards Sachall

Today was the most beautiful day with these huge round clouds sailing through the air. The landscape was changing constantly with the light and shadows jumping around with the sun coming in and out from behind the clouds. This was painted from a bridge that has a lower deck which is perfect for painting because it blocked the wind, sun and the noise of the traffic from the bridge.I’ve painted in this spot before from a different point of view and fell in love with it. Then one day sometime after having painted here, I was looking through a book of assorted Italian impressionist painters and I saw this same view in a painting by Signorini. Of course the view was different, because back then this bridge wasn’t here yet, but this villa was. It’s a funny feeling sometimes to paint the same thing that has been painted in the past. It’s really cool actually. It’s funny to think about that our taste in the end hasn’t changed that much over time, that there are some things that attract us that are timeless. This brings to mind Marc Dalessio and friends here in Florence who once went searching for a famous Corot (Bridge at Narni )landscape to try and repaint it, and, well, it just wasn’t the same place as when Corot was there. (here is the link if you want to see their video about the trip.. Bridge at Narni Video)Italy is great that way, for sure at least someone has already painted wherever it is you choose to plant your easel. Just imagine all the masterpieces that we’ll never have the chance to see..To buy this painting from my website, click here.
