Day 85: Rainy Sunday in the Studio

Day 85: Rainy Sunday in the Studio

Today I got outside too late and got rained on just about halfway through my painting. So going back in I just hung around in my “studio” thinking about what to paint. I really wasn’t in the mood to set up a still life, so I walked around the outside edges of the house where I could stand protected from the rain and paint outside but not get wet. No interesting compositions there, so standing inside the studio door thinking, I thought why not just paint this? It’s a pretty cool view really. It took me the better part of the afternoon to finish this painting as I was going at a turtle’s pace, daydreaming about reading a book. It took me telling myself out loud to concentrate a few times to stay on track. I guess it’s clear by now that I won’t feel like painting every single day of my life, but despite this, when I go ahead and do it anyway I get into it and forget about my laziness. I always learn and have something to bring to the next painting. This painting was a challenge because of all of the complicated things going on out through the window, so I went ahead and simplified them. I also simplified the amount of stuff on the table, in reality there is a lot more piled on there! It helped me tackle the painting and not feel overwhelmed. Maybe on the next one I’ll go ahead and try adding more stuff, or maybe less is more?To buy today’s painting for $100, click here.
