Day 110: Familiar Faces

Day 110: Familiar Faces

These old sheds are somehow familiar to me. They remind me of the southern U.S., of Florida more specifically. I was happy to see a familiar face out there painting today.Old Sheds, Villa Gordiani6×8″Oil on Panel© Kelly Medford, 2012Those these are familiar aesthetically, there were not familiar painting-wise. I wanted to paint these sheds for their deep shadows and shapes with those purple shadows creeping along the top. I also couldn’t resist the insane green of the plants in the foreground offsetting those deep recesses of the shadows. The greens and purples were new, a little different color palette and such high contrast! Perfect. This photo has a lot of glare, it’s tricky to photograph those darks. I hope you get the idea.Just wanted to thank you all so much for your thoughtful comments and emails, they have given me not only encouragement but also extrememly useful feedback. If you like today’s painting, you can see it or buy it here for $120 on my website.
