The New Year: A Return
This year I am returning here to my blog. I have missed the value of sharing work in a longer format, having the opportunity to reflect on working and developing as a painter this way and also the format to be able to interact with you in the process.
This year I have lots of projects in mind, mostly outdoors around Rome. I will be working on some larger canvases of places I love and have not yet painted. I would also like to work in the studio on some larger interiors and figure paintings.
As an artist there is always a need to be experimenting and trying new things. That could be learning a new medium or using an old medium in a new way. It is important to remember to make work that is just for the love of painting, trying new ideas and pushing out beyond what I know and am comfortable with.
At the same time it is important to keep developing a body of work, to keep painting Rome and deepening my relationship with its landscape and having the chance to share it with the world. Painting for me seems to be a balance of the familiar and new.
I look forward to a year full of sharing and painting, of inspiration and growth.
I wish you a year of getting back to whatever it is you love and inspires you!

January 3, 2020 at 6:11 pmI look forward to your posts! I admire your tenacity and talent. I was inspired by a trip to China for a pastel show to work larger. They are working on big paper. I’m now spending my painting time in the studio. I want to get back outside and breathe the fresh air!
I’m still refining my technique and style. I took a workshop with a Spanish hyperrealist artist, Aurelio Rodriguez Lopez, and learned more about materials and processes. There is always more to know! Wish I had a lifetime in front of me!

January 4, 2020 at 5:48 amI plan on posting ways to get paid saleswise on FB. 39 works sold in 2019. I use handwritten letters, news and career updates work well for me. I have a written project list, also some shorthand notes to make art. Bonnard worked from his quick pencil notes, made on small pocket calenders.
