Winter Morning in Florence
Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, of Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, Michelangelo’s David, The Ponte Vecchio, Arno river and so much more, is a place we all know and love. Even if you’ve never physically been to the city, you feel you know it through thousands of images.

I lived in Florence for 5 years and painted many nooks and crannies of this idyllic city, it is beautiful in the classical sense of the word.
When I go back to visit I like wandering off and finding some less classical views, places that inspire and renew my desire to paint in a city that we have been bombarded with so many images that could easily dictate how to see the city.
Since it was chilly and overcast during my visit, the misty morning and low hanging clouds created these wonderful moody blues of the city’s skyline and casted it into a perfect silhouette. My idea was to get up above it a little and catch a view and the atmosphere so wonderful at this time of year.
This park, locally called Il Dragone because of the mosaiced dragon fountain snaking up the hill, is mostly visited by locals and is a great place to get out of the tourist filled center. The real name of the upper tier of this park is Gli Orti del Parnaso and is part of Il Giardino dell’Orticultura not far from Piazza della Libertà in Florence.
