The Perfect Venitian Light

The Perfect Venitian Light

When I think of Venice I think of gray, fog and soft quiet light.Though it’s not always that way, that is the ideal way I like to picture the city and the empty sparse piazzas around every corner seem to echo this sentiment.

This square, one of my favorites in all of Venice, is the perfect example of what I mean. Its silent and muted pinks and yellows mixed with the gray stones and old water well are as if from a dream. There are so many subjects to paint just in this square alone and in the afternoon filled up with families, people walking their dogs and a few tourists off-the-beaten-track who made their way here for lunch. This is where we spent our last day painting during our Venice plein air workshop last month and I think everyone was sad to stop painting at the end of the day. Everyone said that this was their favorite place.Nestled between 2 canals it is a lovely place to visit next time you’re in Venice. I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as we all did.
