Roman Fast Food Trucks: Paint Worthy?

Roman Fast Food Trucks: Paint Worthy?

Found in all the most picturesque places in Rome, these fast-food snack trucks are a part of our local scenery.Bibite, Panini: Pincio6×8″oil on linen panel©Kelly Medfordavailable hereNot considered a real food alternative if you’re out and about in the city as anything you can eat here is not what I’d want to eat while in Italy. I decided to paint this, not only for the fantastic back lit situation that I found here this afternoon, but also to document this soon to disappear staple of the city.Rome’s new mayor Ignazio Marino has announced that these trucks will be forced to drive elsewhere. Stating that these trucks never actually had permits to be here, they’ve been parked in these prime spots for years and anymore have become a part of the local landscape. If they are headed out, I wanted to catch just one to remember the changing landscape of one of my most favorite parks in Rome on the Pincian Hill. This place has been a long time favorite places for plein air painters documenting Rome, including most famously Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot in the 19th century.Never have I seen a painting of one of Rome’s yellow food trucks, after all, it is a part of the Roman landscape.See this and other recent small paintings from Rome and Italy here on my website.

What a shame the mayor wants these removed from Rome, but good that you captured one of them.

Similar situation in 0rlando, new ordinances keep food truck off the street. They can only be on private property like a driveway. Food trucks are a staple of my sketch diet.

Sue, it isn’t a shame if they replace them with some decent ones with real food! Aestetically this is the best looking one around the city I think.

Thor, I know what you mean. I’m coming to try some food truck Orlando food soon. The only food truck I remember is at the beer place. Maybe you can show me some other ones (if there are any because of this ordanance??)
