The Doorways of Rome
Lately I’ve taken to doing a few small paintings and studies of doors around Rome. The lights and shadows are irresistible! The Blue Door, Piazza della Torretta8×6″Oil on Linen Panel©Kelly Medfordclick here for purchase informationWhen it’s hard to get a wide view because of narrow streets or after an already long day of painting, a quicker smaller painting is fun and a good study of light and shadow. It also keeps my drawing in paint skills sharp.2 Doors, Via degli Acetari8×6″Oil on Linen Panel©Kelly Medfordclick here for purchase informationThe contrast of light and shadows combined with the rich colors is what I love the most about painting in Rome.Upcoming Exhibition:Group Exhibition of Roman CityscapesStudio-9Vicolo della Moretta, 9RomeOpening Reception Friday, June 216:30-9 p.m.Come and paint or sketch in Italy.Click here to see upcoming workshops

July 4, 2013 at 9:06 amThank you for your comments Vindy and too true that each door has its own personality, so eloquently said. I had never thought about it before until I painted several in a row, seeing how really each one is so unique. Another thing to admire and appreciate about Italy!
