Ideal Roman Settings…
Well, if you’ve ever been to Rome you may have noticed how many cars there are in this city- nothing like today’s quiet painting.Morning Light, Via degli Spagnoli24x18cmOil on linen panel©Kelly Medfordclick here for purchase infoYou can’t imagine the chaos really going on in this scene of scooters and cars parking and leaving, workmen shouting between the street and the roof. At one point one of these silent doors opened up and became a restaurant, placing big umbrellas right in the middle of this view. All of this was happening while having to move my easel about every 15 minutes to keep the rising sun off the canvas.WHEW!Plein air painting is a lot to manage, some days more than others. So for this time I chose to simplify, leave it all out as I couldn’t imagine how I would capture any of the chaotic passing objects and this was the result.Almost an experiment and really a Rome that I wish I could experience more often: quiet.Click here to see upcoming plein air and sketchbook journaling workshops in Italy
