Grand Views
aaaaah, Via Giulia! Now, if you don’t know Rome this might not mean anything to you.Via Giulia is probably one of the most beautiful streets in the center of the historical city (in my humble opinion). It runs straight along the Tiber river for almost a kilometer, but it’s best feature is this lovely arch which creates a walkway from the Palazzo Farnese (which was part of an uncompleted project by Michelangelo).Winter Light, Via Giulia8×6″Oil on Linen mounted on wood© Kelly MedfordThis part of town was the Florentine quarter (Gucci and other important Florentine businesses are still based here) and Pope Julius II intended it to be a street connecting all of the important government institutions in the 1500s.This grand plan got sidetrack and was never fully completed. Today it is a fashionable street lined with art galleries and high end shops. It’s always the perfect place for a walk. You can see today’s painting here on the website. To see all other small daily paintings, click hereCheck out 250 other artists participating in daily painting this January by clicking here!Come and paint Italy!
