Day 71: Writing on the Wall

Day 71: Writing on the Wall

Out and about Rome today I thought about this place with some old warehouses that have fallen out of use and decided to stop by and see if there were any paintings waited to be painted there. In looking at the scene I almost couldn’t picture it as a painting. It’s not something that I would normally paint. An Old Warehouse, The Prenestina6×8″Oil on Panel© Kelly Medford, 2012Most likely you can tell from the painting that I really had a good time painting the graffiti on the building. That was really a cool surprise. I was wondering even how I was going to pull that off and it turned out to be my favorite part of the painting.I’m glad I painted this scene today. A huge part of Rome is covered in graffiti, it’s part of the city’s aesthetic and I couldn’t imagine Rome without it. Outside the center of Rome is where you find most of the graffiti, not to mention on the lesser used Metro B Line. It’s an aspect of the city that I shouldn’t always avoid painting. You can see today’s painting or buy it here from my website:https://kellymedford.com/works/959991/an-old-warehouse-the-prenestinaThanks so much for following the 120 Day Project!

It’s great how you’ve painted the wall art. A very successful and original painting!

Thanks Sue, so glad you enjoy this one. It was definitely something new and different for me to try and I didn’t know whether or not it would work out. I might have to attempt some more contemporary scenes, as they’re a huge part of the city just waiting to be painted.
