Day 93: On the Move
I’m back in Florence again for a quick stop over on my way to being on “vacation”. I say it “that way”, because I’m not really totally on vacation (i.e. doing nothing), as I will be, of course, painting daily. I’m relived about this, I always get a little stir crazy just relaxing and doing nothing.Back Garden, Via Maffei8×6″Oil on Panel© Kelly Medford, 2012I think I’ve looked at this view at least 100 times. It’s the view from my boyfriend’s parents back deck. In fact I’ve been wondering how I would paint this for years, but never actually attempted it.Then a few weeks ago painter Lisa Egeli was in Florence. She came to visit on a painting trip and I saw her paint this. Now I wanted to have my turn, so here it is.I am always fascinated by the light and shadows on these colorful buildings and that was the case this morning as well and was the focus of my painting. I just love the challenge of trying to get the color and value right of the color and shadows. I don’t always get it right and sometimes I do.I really liked how you can see part of the garden path going back towards the houses and the play of the organic shapes of the trees and bushes contrasted with the hard lines and colors of the buildings.I’m looking forward to these upcoming days of making some different paintings in a new place, I hope you are too. Stay tuned! You can buy today’s painting here from my website for $120.Thanks so much for following the 120 Day Project!
