Morning Stripes6×8″Oil on Linen Panel© Kelly Medford, 2012We had a fun and exciting surprise this past week in Rome- snow! It’s uncommon for it to snow here and then we had quite a bit. I can’t resist but post a photo from the resulting storm below. These is just one picture of my little studio shed as it was beginning to get buried under the impending snow.In the end we got quite a bit- enough for everyone in the city to build a snowman and go sledding. I don’t know the last time I got to experience a snow storm and I too felt like a little kid going out to play in the snow.As you can see, I also stayed in and painted one of my most conforting subjects- coffee. I love all kinds of little espresso cups you can find here, and these are handmade from the southern town of Orvieto. The stripes brightened up an otherwise grey day. I love color: bold, bright color, so this did the trick to liven up these simple and reserved cups.
