Morning Stripes (or keeping warm)
Morning Stripes6×8″Oil on Linen Panel© Kelly Medford, 2012We had a fun and exciting surprise this past week in Rome- snow! It’s uncommon for it to snow here and then we had quite a bit. I can’t resist but post a photo from the resulting storm below. These is just one picture of my little studio shed as it was beginning to get buried under the impending snow.In the end we got quite a bit- enough for everyone in the city to build a snowman and go sledding. I don’t know the last time I got to experience a snow storm and I too felt like a little kid going out to play in the snow.As you can see, I also stayed in and painted one of my most conforting subjects- coffee. I love all kinds of little espresso cups you can find here, and these are handmade from the southern town of Orvieto. The stripes brightened up an otherwise grey day. I love color: bold, bright color, so this did the trick to liven up these simple and reserved cups. Enjoy! If you like this painting, you can bid on it here at my Daily Paintworks site.More still lives to come…

February 7, 2012 at 12:50 pmI’m happy you got to enjoy a touch of snow. In small portions it’s always fun. When it last for months on months, it can be a bit too much. I live in snow country, but this year it has been a very mild winter. No one is complaining except for the ski resorts!

February 8, 2012 at 10:11 amI can only imagine people who live in snowy places get a little tired of snow- here in Rome it’s a rare (and exciting!) event. The grass is always greener I guess. You live in Maine Susan?! You must really be used to snow..
That said, I am looking forward to spring and summer when it’s easy to get out every day and paint on the streets of Rome.
Thanks so much for your comments,
Kelly
