Day 75: Nave a Rovezzano

Day 75: Nave a Rovezzano

I’ve actually painted here before. This is one of the places that I’m obsessed with and don’t think I could ever get tired of paitning. It’s a place way out of town along the Arno river. There’s a bike path all the way and it is such a beautiful day that I just couldn’t resist the bike ride out here. There’s something about how the blues and oranges come together in the sunlight here in Italy that I just get so addicted to, it’s mostly why I love painting here. The effect of the sunlight here is so intense and beautiful, well I guess it’s partly why I’ve stayed all this time painting here in Italy.People were out walking their dogs and jogging this morning. The only person who stopped to talk was an old man with a violin who just couldn’t understand why on earth I was doing such a small painting! He kept waiting for an answer, and the only answer was, well, it’s the project!Sometimes I agree with him, though. After riding all the way out there (which I would have done even without having gone painting..) I could feel like making a big painting was somehow more important or worthwhile for the time and effort. But in thinking about it, looking at many of the best paintings from the Italian Impressionists (I Macchiaioli in Italian) they’re tiny and gorgeous, they loved this light effect and they really were awesome at naililng it! That’s what I’m aiming for, I Macchiaioli gone 21st century..To buy today’s painting for $100, click here. To view other paintings from the 100 day project, click here.
