Day 66: Rain on the River
Today’s painting was an experiment and memory exercise. I was down on the river and this scene was there, with the darkest purple sky I’ve ever seen. Of course along with that sky came the heaviest rain. Even though I had parked myself under the bridge anticipating the rain, the wind blew the rain all over my palette and painting and I had to jump ship. So I used what I had down already and what I remembered in order to finish up this painting. It’s pretty fun actually working on a painting away from the site and trying to remember the big relationships of color and value between the objects. I think I will do this more often and challenge myself, not only to remember the scene and take away just the important essentials, but also for the benefit of creating what seems right in the moment for the painting and not just copying what’s there, only because it’s there.
