Day 65: In the Gardens

Day 65: In the Gardens

It seems like it takes multiple times of repeating something to have it sink in. Today I learned another valuable lesson (again) about what I like to paint. I went by to see some friends and their various studios earlier today and saw all of the cool and interesting projects that they’re working on. I then got the idea in my mind that I needed to go and paint a great big, interesting beautiful landscape. You can probably guess what ensued from here. I spent lots of time riding around looking and looking some more to find something to fit the idea I had in my mind instead of being open to what was already there. I ended up in the Horticultural gardens and thought to paint people sitting in the park enjoying the sun. I was set on this idea of a “scene”. When I went to lock up my bike, I saw this bench. I immediately thought that I loved the light and what was probably the only empty bench in the entire park. I still proceeded to walk all around to find the exact right spot.

In the end, I thought it might just be silly or crazy, at the least a little odd to paint this empty bench in the park, I mean to make an entire painting just about that. But I did it because in the end it was what caught my attention and interested me above everything else. In the end I’m glad I painted this, it was fun and a little different.

This is gorgeous! Your painting seems to get stronger with each piece you create.

    What an exciting time 🙂
