Day 64: Nightime in the Kitchen
I had this painting in mind on and off and decided that today was the day to try it out, especially since it’s been awhile since I did an interior. Looking at the painting after the fact, the single pot on the stove leaves me with a feeling of loneliness, which is how most all of these night time interiors feel to me. If I think about it, cooking for one can be lonely sometimes. Originally I wanted to use a big red pot that we used to have, but I burnt soup in it and we had to throw it out. Luckily we still have the cover, so I think it gives a bit of color to the otherwise monochromatic picture.
Today was actually a gorgeous day. The sun was coming and going all day long and the wind was whipping up a storm. I had my usually lazy Sunday mentality of wanting to take it easy, so I visited with friends and went out for brunch. I did also paint today. Since it was the first day of daylight savings time, there was so much daylight, the day felt so long! But I wasn’t painting for the project today, I was working on a bigger painting that will take longer than just one afternoon.
I will be going back to the U.S. in a few weeks and decided that I would really like to have some bigger paintings to bring back with me, and I also wanted to start some bigger paintings to see what that’s like after painting only small paintings for the last 2 months straight. I have to say that going to a big canvas feels like being turned loose in a candy store! It’s so much fun to get out big brushes and use big piles of paint and just cover a lot of space, it’s freeing. Before I started this project I was never really sure how to approach a big painting, now I feel more confident and excited.
So, what I’ve decided to do is share my progress on some bigger paintings with you weekly. You can click here to go to the website and see what I’ve started. So far they’re just starts, but each Sunday I’ll send you the link to the updates in the paintings and if you’re interested you can have a look.
I hope you had a relaxing, full and fun Sunday as I did. Thanks for following my progress, it’s so wonderful to have the chance to share my work with you!
