Day 60: Morning in the Park, San Frediano
This morning I knew that I wanted to paint in this neighborhood. I used to go running in this park and paint down by the river below in the summer time, so I went here for comfort or out of my sentimental attachment to the place.
What caught my eye about this composition in particular is I like the light under the deep darkness of the trees. When I started painting I wasn’t sure at all that this painting would turn out, it seemed akward and unconvincing at first. Once I got to putting in the dark contrasted with the light, it just came together.
Only a few people stopped to talk to me today, either older people going to walk in the park or people with their children. One guy stopped to shake my hand and tell me that he thought that I was a good painter and that he wasn’t just making fun of me. That really made me laugh out loud!
Some days I really like painting outside in public places, I feel like I’m somehow involved in what’s going on in the world, even if I am just painting a moment in time. Being in a studio I think I would feel like I were missing the action of every day life. Even if nothing eventful happened, life was happening all around and I was glad to be there for it this morning.
