Day 48: Piazza Tasso, Corner of Via della Chiesa

Day 48: Piazza Tasso, Corner of Via della Chiesa

Everyone in Florence loves this neighborhood, it’s still a real neighborhood with old school Florentines. I had no idea what I would paint since it was raining on and off, and I stopped here, planting my easel under the eaves of a building. At first I didn’t think the painting would be all about this cool little car, but I’m learning to keep the paintings more focused rather than always attempting a larger scene on my small canvas. Half of the car was improvised, as someone stopping for lunch parked right in front of it.

I was thinking that this was going to be tough to paint, and it was a challenge, but I had fun making it. I don’t think I’ve ever put a car in a painting, which is probably one of the main reasons why I’ve painted so few city scapes, but Florence is packed with cars, so here’s a first attempt of most likely many to come. Despite the rain and cold I’m happy to have gone outside painting today, it was a good day for it.
