Day 41: Signs of Spring
Today with the artic wind blowing and rain threating I went into my friend’s garden looking for a cool view to paint. Not finding anything that captured my interest and freezing after just 5 minutes, I spotted these miniture daffodils. Perfect! Today they were the only affirmative sign of better weather to come. I never painted daffodils before thinking that the yellow would be too tricky, especially in the shadows, but these were small and really fun, not the challenge that I had imagined. I think I will get some big ones and paint those this week if the bad weather continues.Actually, I realized today that I’m almost halfway through the project. And although I have no idea what’s next, I think that it is time that I start working on some bigger paintings that take longer than one sitting. The thing that I love about these one shot paintings is their freshness, spontaneity and diversity in subject matter. I’m definately gaining a new perspective on what’s paintable and going for new challenges like I never have before. For me I think the challenge in a larger and longer painting will be to maintain the freshness and the spontanaiety over many sessions. This will be a new and interesting challenge. Today’s painting is simple and in it’s simplicity there is something that reminds me of spring. You can see this painting and others from the 100 day project by clicking here.
