Day 32: Unknown Church, Fucecchio

Day 32: Unknown Church, Fucecchio

This church was really interesting and beautiful, old but not medieval (it is way more symmetrical than my painting.. ha!). It’s in the countryside outside of Florence and I had never seen it before and just noticed it while driving. I wanted to set up my big easel outside to paint, but it was raining on and off so I used my little box that you hold on your lap and stayed in the car, a potentially bad move! I ended up inadvertently parking between a couple’s front door and their shop door. I found this out because at a certain point the old wife came down and was grumbling and shaking her fist at me for having parked there. I rolled down the window to talk with her and tell her that I could move, but she stalked off before we could talk about it. I kept on painting in my akward bent up position in the little (Italian..) car and soon after the husband came out the front door and almost stumbled right into my car. I rolled down the window to talk to him, but he too didn’t seem interested in talking. He did tell me not to move, that I wasn’t bothering him by parking there. Nonetheless I felt a little in the way and got the painting down and got out of there. I think I prefer standing outside with my big french box easel, even if there is no being discreet with that thing. I would rather be ridiculous and have a better shot at making a solid painting than being squished in a car (although the car is much drier/warmer) but also makies it more challenging to paint. Maybe car painting just takes some getting used to..?! After Florida all of this rain is taking some getting used to..Either way, this church really caught my eye and I didn’t get the name of it, but in the end I’m not sure that the name matters..To buy this painting or view others from the 100 day project follow this link www.kellymedford.com/worksAll paintings are $100 + shipping, are 6×8″ in size and painted on birch.
