Day 20: Classic Buttercream
Different. This is what I have to say about today. I was planning on, well, easy really, smooth sailing. It’s Friday and my last day of work at the greenhouse. I only worked a half day and then had a wonderful time at lunch with a friend. As the rain was pouring down outside she challenged me to find a place to stand under and paint. And if you can believe it, I wasn’t game. I was ready to go home and take a nap! I had no idea what I would paint today, but after lunch I stopped at the place next door to grab a coffee, and low and behold, cupcakes! I had instant visions of Wayne Thiebaud and his florescent cakes in all of their glory: I had to paint them.I really took my time starting this evening. Thinking the painting would be easy, I felt like I had all the time in the world. This is actually the second painting. I scrapped the first one after a few hours of struggling with it. Sometimes you have to know what’s not right to know what is. This was the painting that I wanted to paint of the luscious buttercream cupcake. I have to admit, if I didn’t commit to this project and to posting the painting every day, I would have called it a night knowing that there was a painting in there somewhere. I would have told myself that I would go back to it tomorrow. But would I have?I tried eating one of these cupcakes (I bought several), but after two bites I had to jump up and throw it away. I thought I would go into a brain dead sugar coma if I actually ate the entire thing. Cupcakes are good for painting but questionable as food. For all you cupcake lovers out there, this one’s for you. You can buy this painting for $100 (+15 shipping) at this link from my website https://kellymedford.com/works/405470. You can view all paintings from the 100 day project here: www.kellymedford.com/works. All paintings are 6×8″, painted on birch or linen mounted on birch and cost $100 (+ $15 shipping). If you know someone who would like to subscribe to receive the daily painting email, they can subscribe below or they can follow the project here on the blog. Thanks for reading, this is getting fun!
