Day 16: Oysters on the Table
Tricky oysters! I saved these shells from a restaurant in Sarasota while taking a painting workshop with Marc Hanson (hi all you Sarasota ladies!). Although I felt a little odd asking the waitress if I could take home the shells, she didn’t even so much as blink at my request. I’ve been wanting to paint these things ever since. My assessment: oysters are not for painting in one evening!Really though it was a good challenge..I just love painting white, and the more you look at an oyster the subtler it gets. Who ever knew white had so many shades? My first memories of oysters are mixed. I remember being really little and my mom feeding me one and just gagging, but my grandparents who live on the eastern shore of Maryland, their entire driveway is paved with oyster shells. I remember my grandfather sitting on an overturned bucket shucking them at the end of the day. This is not my last attempt, now I’m only inspired to go for it again, so don’t be surprised if you see more oysters! If you would like to buy this painting or any other from the 100 day painting project, you can find them here: www.kellymedford.com/works.
