Day 7: The Old Sewing Machine
I found this sewing machine in my mom’s house, I don’t think that it actually works. It’s one of those machines that folds down inside the table and then becomes, well, a table. I actually attempted to paint this twice before but never finished. This thing about starting and finishing a painting in one day is creating the opportunity for me to paint all of those things that I see and think that I would like to paint but then don’t for whatever reason.I have a certain affection for sewing machines, even though I’m clueless as to how to use one. My mom always sewed all of my clothes growing up, and she still has the same machine that she had then. There is something comforting about the hum of her machine. To tell you the truth I really wanted a day off today, I was already ready to go on a painting “vacation,” can you believe that? It’s only been a week! Today I really got to know my friend resistence, he was right there next to me all day long. There is something to be said I guess for doing something when I don’t want to, just because I said I would. No excuse will really do; I was by no means ill or dying or anything, just a little lazy and tired. The thing is once I get started, no matter if it’s going well or badly, I get into the painting and forget that I spent half the day avoiding doing it.Here’s to procrastination, do it now or later, but sooner or later it got done. I probably could have gone on a mini half day vacation if I hadn’t spent so much energy trying to avoid the painting and doing things like my taxes instead, now that’s bad! Thanks for reading, and like last night I’m skipping veg time and heading to bed. Until tomorrow..Thanks again for reading!

January 31, 2010 at 6:25 amHa! I always thought I learned the whole doing-things-I-don’t-want-to-do and finishing-what-I-start thing from you! Maybe I did, but it’s nonetheless something you have to learn over and over again.

January 31, 2010 at 2:20 pmThis is really great! It looks so realistic; I am so impressed! And, by the way, the machine does work. Keep up the good work. I am working on that do what you said, even when you don’t want to do it myself. I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I love your paintings. Mom
